About Us

Mapin Publishing is reputed for illustrated books on Indias art and culture. Our publishing programme covers a broad spectrum: fine art, architecture, archaeology, crafts, design, exhibition catalogues, museum collections, performing arts, photography and more. We publish literature under our nascent literary imprint, MapinLit, and produce books for children that bring Indian narratives and art-forms closer to young readers.

With a checkered history of over 25 years since our first book - Crafts of Gujarat - was published in 1985, we now have more than 300 titles to our credit. We take pride in our  contribution towards promoting the understanding of Indian art and culture by producing outstanding publications. These include Foreword Book of the Year Awards (for Handmade in India and Sacred Spaces) British Art Historians Award (for Indian Painting), Textile Society of America Award (for Threads of Identity) and Shephard Award (for Kashmiri Shawl), to name a few.

We work with art book publishers and museums from around the world to collaborate and produce books and exhibition catalogues. The company has also produced for, and copublished with, well-known university presses. In addition to publishing services, we also offer packaging services to museums, galleries, corporate clients and other publishers in developing books; and we enable distribution of books through a pool of sales representatives and warehouses in key locations, covering all markets around the world. Our global network is kept alive through participation in major international book fairs and specialist events.

Quality Publishing
Mapin has defined quality publishing in India. Our editors work hand-in-hand with authors for manuscript development, driven to ensure meticulous editing and proofreading of text. Samples of our work represent a range of design styles with carefully selected typography, presentation of information and respect for all content - both art and text. Our designers collaborate with authors in developing a unique design approach for each book, the production of which is guided by strict guidelines for image reproduction and colour proofing. We work with the best printers in the industry, based in India, Singapore, China and Italy.

Marketing and Distribution
Mapin warehouses books at four locations. Ahmedabad, Bangkok, London and Boston and distributes worldwide through a network of 60 sales representatives. Books are available through major wholesalers, retailers, museum book shops, university book shops and on major websites.

The company participates at major international book fairs - Frankfurt Book Fair, London International Book Fair, Book Expo America, World Book Fair Delhi and Abu Dhabi Book Fair. We are represented at other fairs by our distributors. In addition, we also participate regularly in specialist events - Association of Asian Studies, ARLIS (Art Library Society), CAA (College Art Association) and Museum Stores Association in North America.
